Fit & Care of Your Zilco Harness
Guidelines to extend the life of you’re Zilco Harness
· DO NOT power/Machine Wash Zilco Harness - This could cause cosmetic damage
· AVOID PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS
· WIPE EXCESSIVE SWEAT OFF Zilco Harness BEFORE STORING
· DO NOT LEAVE Auxiliary pads on harness after washing – Air Dry
· DO NOT WASH Zilco Harness WITH DETERGENTS – Use ONLY mild soaps
· HANG Zilco Harness OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT – So air can circulate around it.
FIT – The fit of your equipment is very important. Check with a trained professional driving instructor to ensure that your Harness fits correctly and is comfortable for your horse.
CLEANING – It is easy to clean. For the benefit of your horse and harness, after use, gently hose or wipe down. Mild soap – NOT DETERGENT- may be added to the wash water. Vinyl care products may be used to add a sheen- care must be taken to ensure soaps and vinyl care products do not cause skin reactions with your horse. Harness should be hung to dry so that air can circulate around it – OUT OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Auxiliary pads should be removed and air dried separately.
PETROLEUM BASED PRODUCTS – Avoid direct contact with products that re petroleum based. This would include mineral oil and baby oil. Read the label on liniments, fly sprays, wound dressings, braces, solvents, or similar products which might be used under the equipment or come in contact with it.
AVOID EXTREME HEAT – Do not put Zilco Harness (or any harness)on heaters, radiators, or other hot surfaces.
ADDITIONAL ADJUSTMENTS – More holes may be added to you’re Zilco Harness using any hole punch. Start with the smallest hole on the punch – this will cut most easily – then enlarge hole to desired size. Excess length of material can be cut off- SEAL RAW EDGES- with a small soldering iron or hot craft iron available at any hardware store.
WEAR can occur. Before use, always check for wear spots. Try to correct the reason for wear. i.e. traces should have a straight draught line from breastplate to tree, no bend. Harness should not rub against carriage or saddle. Knowledgeable horse person should be consulted for correct fit of equipment.
